Horticultural therapy meets people where they are. All of my work is grounded in the same belief: that everyone has a right to connect with nature, in a way that works for them.
Horticultural Therapy or Therapeutic Horticulture?
These terms are related but distinct. Horticultural therapy is goal-directed, assessment-based, and facilitated by a registered professional working toward specific therapeutic outcomes for individuals. Therapeutic horticulture is broader nature-based programming that supports general wellbeing and broader goals without a clinical framework. Both have real value, and I offer both, depending on what fits.
The People I Work With
Horticultural therapy is for everyone. I have particular experience working with people with a variety of life experiences, including:
Physical, developmental, or intellectual disabilities
Mental health challenges
Dementia and cognitive changes
Grief and life transition
Reduced mobility or chronic illness
Social isolation
Youth
Anyone seeking connection, calm, and a reliable place to feel better — no diagnosis or referral required
Programs and Services
One-on-One Sessions Personalized horticultural therapy sessions tailored to your goals, pace, and abilities. A good fit for people who prefer individual support, or whose needs call for a more focused approach. Referrals from other care providers welcome.
The Garden Studio Sometimes people just want to garden — or make something beautiful. Not as therapy, just for the joy of it, the learning, the fresh air, the satisfaction of growing something with their own hands.
The Garden Studio offers supported community gardening and creative experiences for people who want to get outside, learn real gardening skills, or explore nature-inspired art. Choose from:
Garden Class — tend a plot, learn to plant, maintain, weed, harvest, and use what you grow
Art Class — explore garden-inspired creative projects using materials sourced from the garden itself
Art & Garden Class — a combination of both
The Garden Studio is focused on autonomy, physical activity, learning new recreation skills, creativity, and getting outside. It is a recreational and community experience, not a therapy program.
Public Workshops Single-session, hands-on experiences open to everyone. Workshops explore nature-inspired art — gelli printing, cyanotype, and more — as well as seasonal gardening topics. Watch Instagram and Facebook for upcoming dates.
Group Sessions Ongoing or time-limited programs designed around your participants, setting, and season. Whether your group comes for a single visit or a regular program over several weeks, sessions are hands-on, nature-based, and tailored to your context. Themes vary by season and can be customized.
School Programs Hands-on, curriculum-linked nature and garden programming for elementary classrooms (Grades 3–6). Programs are designed to bring science and social studies to life through direct experience with the natural world — getting outside, getting curious, and getting their hands dirty.
Current programs link explicitly to the Ontario Science and Social Studies curricula:
Soils
Worm Composting
Biodiversity
Planting Seeds
Indigenous Perspectives on the Land
Programs can be delivered in your schoolyard, garden space, or at the Guelph Enabling Garden. Each program includes all materials and can be tailored to your class's specific curriculum expectations.
Speaking & Presentations Available for conferences, corporate events, professional development days, and community gatherings. Sessions can be informational, hands-on, or both — tailored to your audience and context. Get in touch to discuss what would work for your event.
Organizational Contracts Program design, facilitation, documentation, and reporting for healthcare facilities, long-term care homes, community organizations, and social service agencies. I'd welcome a conversation about what this could look like for your setting.
